Introduction to Language

Language is very important to how well we do at our critical thinking. Language is the currency of our thoughts and expressions. It is the vehicle by which we make our ideas known to others. It is important for us then to be clear in our use of language. We must be sure to say what we mean and mean what we say. We have to be cognizant of the power of the word. Often words have different meanings based on the different contexts in which they are used. It is important to acknowledge the context in which the word is being used so as to insure clear critical thinking skills. Words change in meaning over time. It is important to keep up with the latest verbiage and its meaning so as to be successful in our problem solving, decision making, conflict resolution, and improving our interpersonal relationships. If we are clear in our facts and do not cloud or obfuscate them we will be more successful in getting people to respond positively to our arguments offered to resolve issues. Although this sounds very formal there is a great deal of humor and fun to be hand with our language. This section of the critical thinking course is fun and yet provocative. Enjoy yourself with the myriad of examples offered.
