Columbia River Gorge

Between Oregon and Washington State

We took Highway 84 from Portland along the Columbia River Gorge. On the north side of the river is Washington State. This river is massive and the cliffs along the side tower to over 4,000 feet. The river is a recreational destination and windsurfing is very big here during the summer. We were in awe of the magnitude and beauty. It was as if we were looking at a painting rather than at a natural reality.

Mount Hood, Oregon

We took the loop around Mt Hood. Mt Hood is the highest mountain in Oregon and creates a backdrop for Portland.  Mt Hood is an inactive volcano which is 11,245 feet high. It last erupted in 1865. We were overwhelmed by its size and magnitude. We loved going through the mountain passes especially the ones which had snow that day. It turned out that the passes we have pictures of had two feet of snow the next day after our visit. Wow! Mt Hood is a ski resort area.
