After our visit to Mt. St. Helens in Washington State we followed the Columbia River Basin in Washington State over to the Pacific Ocean. We then headed south on Hwy 10. We Floridians were in for a surprise! The Pacific Ocean Coast in Oregon is phenomenal! It is comprised of centuries old volcanic rock formations with huge cliffs and mountain passes. It is a breathtaking sight. We were fighting the rain as we traveled south with our first stop in Seaside and our final destination in Newport. Seaside is the oldest seacoast tourist town in Oregon. It is at the end of the Lewis and Clark Trail.

Newport was our destination because it was a reasonable distance down the pacific coastline of Oregon. Newport is a charming town of 9,000 residents and home to two lighthouses, an aquarium and the largest fishing fleet in Oregon. On the ocean shore is the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse which is a 40 foot tower.
