In the "Wild"

wpeB5.jpg (73388 bytes)wpeB7.jpg (60388 bytes)At Bone Lick State Park in Kentucky they have a heard of Buffalo. The American buffalo, or bison, is the largest of all North American land mammals. Great buffalo herds once roamed the area around the park and provided food, clothing and shelter for the Indians and pioneers. Hunted to near extinction, the last wild buffalo was seen in Kentucky around 1800. The park's herd is an effort to reestablish these animals at Big Bone Lick.

wpeBF.jpg (42152 bytes)wpeC1.jpg (29978 bytes)Mt Airy Forest in Cincinnati has close to 1500 acres and is home to these deer who were seen at sunset walking freely on the grounds of this park. The main times of activity are at dawn and dusk for deer because they are crepuscular. If regularly disturbed they can become nocturnal, staying in close cover during daylight.

wpeC3.jpg (46169 bytes)Here are a family of ducks relaxing on the Canal at Metamora, Indiana. They were too cute! They loved to be fed and swim after the food.

On the Farm

wpeC5.jpg (40293 bytes)wpeC7.jpg (31245 bytes)At Young's Jersey Dairy we got a chance to see lots of farm animals. Left: were goats in the petting zoo. Right: were the Jersey cows after whom this dairy was named.

wpeC9.jpg (48457 bytes)Left: the baby nursery of the dairy, with babywpeCB.jpg (57953 bytes) goats in the front stall. Right: baby pigs.

wpeCD.jpg (38980 bytes)wpeE0.jpg (51936 bytes)Left: another view of the main barn of the dairy and the petty zoo. Right: the children's playground with farm tractors for them to climb up on.

For the "Art" of it

wpeDE.jpg (66981 bytes)

At Young's Jersey Dairy they have a contest for artists to paint cows. On left: is one of these cows climbing a tree on the farm grounds.

wpeE9.jpg (35346 bytes)In Hyde Park in Cincinnati we found two wonderful Pigs which were part of the Charitable Program of Painted Pigs similar to the Painted Cow program in New York and Chicago. Left is an ideal pig waiter standing in front of a restaurant to welcome in the guests with a touch of the bubbly. Right is Goldie Hocks which was just of the Square in Hyde Park. The inscription for GowpeEB.jpg (33685 bytes)ldie is on the Right: It was so much fun to come across these wonderful animated creatures. You can really understand why Cincinnati was and could still be known as Porkopolis
